SCL End Suction Pump
|
SCL Series Long-Shaft End Suction Centrifugal Pump Extended Shaft Design | Motor Isolated from Hot Fluid | Sump & Underground Tank Installation The FILIPUSI SCL series is a horizontal single-stage end suction centrifugal pump built with an extended long shaft and intermediate bearing support. By spacing the motor well away from the pump casing, the SCL keeps the motor and bearings isolated from high-temperature fluids and allows the pump end to be positioned in sumps, pits, or below-grade tank locations while the motor remains above floor level for safe access and ventilation.

What Is a Long-Shaft End Suction Pump?
A long-shaft (also called long-axis or extended-shaft) end suction pump uses a longer pump shaft than a standard long-coupled pump, supported by one or more intermediate bearings, to separate the driver from the liquid end. This configuration is used when the pump must reach down into a sump or underground storage tank, or when the pumped fluid is so hot that the motor must be kept at a distance from the casing. The SCL series combines the simple, reliable hydraulics of a single-stage end suction pump with this extended mechanical arrangement.
Key Features & Engineering Benefits
| • | Motor isolated from heat: The extended shaft keeps the motor and its bearings away from the hot pump casing, protecting motor insulation in hot water and thermal fluid circuits. |
| • | Sump and pit installation: The pump end can be positioned below floor level in sumps, pits, and underground tanks while the motor stays above ground for servicing and ventilation. |
| • | Intermediate shaft support: One or more steady bearings support the extended shaft, controlling deflection and vibration for smooth, reliable operation. |
| • | Corrosion-resistant metallurgy: Available in cast iron, AISI 304/316 stainless steel, and bronze to suit clean water, hot water, and mildly corrosive fluids. |
| • | Simple maintenance: Standard end suction hydraulics with a readily replaceable mechanical seal and common spare parts keep servicing straightforward. |

Typical Applications
Long-Shaft Pump for Hot Water & Thermal Fluid Circulation
In boiler rooms, district heating stations, and thermal oil systems, the extended shaft keeps the motor away from the hot casing, reducing motor temperature and extending insulation and bearing life in continuous high-temperature service.
End Suction Pump for Sumps, Pits & Underground Tanks
Where the liquid level sits below floor level — in drainage sumps, underground storage tanks, and basement plant rooms — the long-shaft arrangement places the pump impeller at the required depth while the motor remains above ground, safe from flooding and easy to access.
Long-Shaft Pump for Steel Mills & Industrial Process Water
Steel mills, foundries, and heavy industrial plants use long-shaft end suction pumps for scale pit water, cooling water return, and process circulation where the pump must reach into deep pits and the environment is hot and dirty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What is the difference between the SCL long-shaft pump and the SCW long-coupled pump?
A1: The SCW is a standard long-coupled back pull-out pump with a spacer coupling on a common baseplate. The SCL uses a much longer shaft with intermediate steady bearings, specifically to reach into sumps/pits or to move the motor farther from a hot fluid. The SCL is engineered to order for the required shaft length and submergence depth.
Q2: What information is needed to size an SCL long-shaft pump?
A2: Please provide required flow and head, fluid type and temperature, sump or pit depth (submergence), the vertical and horizontal distance between pump and motor, available voltage, and flange standard. Our engineers will then specify shaft length, number of intermediate bearings, and provide a dimensional drawing.
Q3: Can the SCL handle seawater or corrosive fluids?
A3: Yes. For seawater and high-chloride water, specify AISI 316 stainless steel or bronze construction with silicon carbide mechanical seals. Material test reports (MTR 3.1) are supplied on request.
